And then happens what happens to me once in a long while: he catches my attention. I mean really makes me stop and stare. I’m attracted to men, after all, and some can be surprisingly handsome. This specimen is a lot more so than one would imagine of a drug addict. Strong, symmetrical features and tanned skin make quite the tableau with full lips, an aquiline nose, and dark green, gold-flecked irises framed by thick eyelashes. Even unkempt blond hair and a three-day stubble look sexy on him. This is the guy who calls himself my sister’s friend? He’s so easy on the eyes, he has to be more than a friend. He scowls. “Do you always do that?” “Do what?” I take in the rest of him. He’s my height, but much skinnier. Probably can’t afford to go to a gym and do weights three times a week like I do. “Refuse to shake someone’s hand,” he replies, tone offended. His voice sounds light but mature. Warm, comfortable to the ear. “While your sister’s in there…fighting for her life.” Tears form in his eyes. So, their redness was due to him crying. “Sorry, it’s the nerves.” I give him my hand. “Yeah.” He accepts to shake it, but his wet glare tells me he’s not convinced. Me? I’m so taken aback by his good looks and intense presence, I almost forget why I came out of the room. Oh yeah. Coffee.

New Release - Lea Bronsen - Carnivora

I have fallen off the edge of the universe for a while, but here I am, back in business. I could not miss a chance to tell you about this book. Very very happy to have my beautiful and extra-smart bestie, Lea Bronsen, on my blog today, with her new, very dark creature. It's been several years in the making and it sounds amazing (and really scary). Read on!

Hi, and thank you for having me on your blog! I’ve always been fascinated by dark psychological thrillers that mess with your mind and keep you on the edge of your seat. I toyed with the genre writing my debut novel Wild Hearted, but labeled it a crime drama. Its sequel, Carnivora, evolved over six years to become a full-blown hold-your-breath thriller that deals with grave issues such as kidnapping, child sex trafficking, and self-harm. Telling five parallel stories with as many voices, it gives you the perspectives of a police informant, a hunted gangster, a mad avenger, an inconsolable girlfriend, and a psychotic kidnapper. I pull no punches weaving these stories, so be prepared for a dark, gritty, and graphic read – a little dirty on the erotic side – that I hope will play with your strings and stick with you for a long time. Please note that this is part 1 of Carnivora and I am currently working on parts 2 and 3, so if those cliffhangers at the end are killing you, don’t despair. The continuation is right around the corner!

Blurb

Fight evil with evil. TOMOR Crime lord Tomor is serving a life sentence behind bars. Without warning, he’s abducted by mysterious men. A sick manhunt is on, with people around him dying like flies. He will need all his street flair and gangster skills to prevent his loved ones from ending up on the death list. LUZ Luz grieves the loss of her lover while striving to take care of their baby. The last thing she needs is to fall for the new neighbor. DAVID A year after he betrayed his adoptive father and sent him to jail, David is slowly rebuilding his life. Then everything falls apart again: he learns that Tomor has escaped, and his police connections lead him to a child sex trafficking ring involving cold, powerful men. The cops are in over their heads with “Project Carnivora” … Perhaps the only one who can help bust the pedophile predators is an equally vicious devil: Tomor, the country’s most hunted criminal.

Excerpt

“Time to change your bandage again,” the nurse mutters, voice cool, and pulls my orange-colored sleeve up to the elbow. She unrolls the long strip of bandage from my wrist and tugs at one corner of the gauze plastered on my wound. It sticks as if glued to the freshly grown skin, and instead of removing the gauze carefully, she tears if off hard, discharging pain through my arm, wrist-to-shoulder. I open my eyes and lift my head off the pillow. “What the fuck are ya doing, trying to reopen the wound or something?” “Like you care.” She stops pulling and glares, gauze between her fingers. “I can see who you are inside. You’re playing tough, aren’t you, bad guy? But you can’t fool me.” “Shut up.” I lay down again, huffing, and stare at the white ceiling above me with its rows of long neon lights. “You’re a good man.” I glance back. “I said, shut the fuck up.” Her eyes shine. She rips off the remaining gauze, ignoring my grunt of pain, and throws it in a bin. “Look.” No fuck. “Look at it,” she insists, voice low and demanding. No. I know what I’ve done, and I can imagine what it looks like. A six centimeter-long deep, reddish, scratched-up ridge along my artery. Layers of skin, fat, meat, and whatnot must be visible and sweating a pinkish liquid from the reborn pores. I don’t need to see it. I guess the girl wants me to be so horrified, I’ll never attempt suicide again. That’s right. She wants to shock me into acceptance. You gotta be fucking kidding me, little thing. She shakes her head. “I don’t understand why they gave you the life sentence.” “You mean they shoulda given me the chair?” Instead of responding to my sarcasm, she pivots to look up at the clock and widens her eyes as if realizing she forgot an appointment. Face tense, she returns to her work, applies some cool, gel-like liquid on the wound, and bandages it with quick routine moves. What’s up with her? In my three days in this woman’s company, I’ve noted the things that make her tick. Maybe she’s upset because I’m leaving the infirmary soon. Earlier, she said she didn’t know when I’d be ready to go back to my cell. She probably knows now, but doesn’t want to tell me. The door opens. She jumps. A uniformed guard pokes his head in, checks the small room, and exits. She seems frozen in place, features tense. Staring ahead and taking deep breaths as if trying to regain composure. I cock my head a little. “What’s going on? They gonna transfer me?” She visibly swallows and fixes her gaze on some point on the wall. I snicker. “Are you sad ‘cause I’m leaving?” Ha, I can be so ugly, when the girl clearly likes me. As she sits there avoiding me, I take the time to check out her tits, and drink in the amazing sight of their pressing against her green blouse with each breath. She doesn’t have a name tag. Come to think of it, none of the personnel do. Evidently, so the inmates can’t identify their ‘caretakers’, and should they by some miracle leave the premises, track them down. I nod to her blouse. “What’s your name?” She twists back to me, brows raised, before shaking her head. “I can’t tell you that.” “C’mon, I’ll never see you again.” I grin, then add with an ironic snicker, teasing her, “They’ll never let me slash my wrists, or hang myself.” She looks away and busies herself collecting the medical stuff, throwing a quick, almost invisible glance to the door. What the hell is making her so nervous? Coldness fills my chest. Something’s up. “Come on, Babe,” I coax with my most gentle, sensual voice, wanting to buy time. “Tell me your name.” “Why?” she whispers, fidgeting with the roll of bandage. “’Cause I want a name to your pretty face when I jack off in my cell.”

Five authors (alive or dead) that I would like to meet - the #evernighties

Five authors (alive or dead) that I would like to meet.

First of all I want to meet (again) my dear friend LeaBronsen. She came visiting last year with her lovely family and I can’t wait to see them all again. It happens from time to time that you meet people online by chance, and it turns unexpectedly into real friendship. When I started talking with Lea (we had two books releasing on the same date, and were swapping blog spots, and one thing led to another) we discovered we had an absurd number of things in common. It became downright ridiculous, like we both had ducks *of the same rare breed*. Don’t tell me that’s normal. Some things are destined to be.

Second, I’d love to meet my other partner in crime KaterinaRoss, whose twisty, kinky magical world (see my post about the Sons of Gomorrah) I adore. She is also a fellow artist, and we have a Facebook Group together, the Ross and Wyvern Notorious Book Club. I don’t think I would have ventured into making an author/artist Facebook group on my own, but doing this with a friend turns out to be a lot of fun! We are both absorbed by increasingly weird writing projects, and I hope that if it comes to the worst, they lock us up in the same psych ward, so we can keep entertaining each other with our bizarre stories.

Third, I’d love to meet Adonis Devereux. This is actually two people, so perhaps it is cheating. They were pretty much the first people I met when I joined Evernight Publishing. We enjoyed each other books. And one thing and another, it sparked an online friendship that is still strong. They inhabit a wonderfully complex imaginary world, part of which can be explored in their Gilalion books. It is wonderful to talk stories with them, but it takes so long to type all our ramblings out, that it would be nice to just have a cup of tea together (or twwo or six) and talk them through until we are hoarse.

The other two authors I mention I have never talked to.
One is Terry Pratchett, and sadly he’s gone. There cannot be many authors with such a wickedly sharp sense of humour, such a wonderful talent for world-building, characterization and all-round story-telling. Although it’s easy for the snobs to dismiss his books as mere childish fantasy tales, they are in fact tremendously “grown up” books, full of wisdom and knowledge, craftily worked into an alternate universe of dazzling complexity. I would think the man behind these stories must have been pretty exceptional, and I wish I had had a chance to know him.

And finally I might like to meet Bill Bryson, whose travel books I have loved for many years. A well travelled person is always fun to talk with, and Bryson has a fine sense of humour, which is much needed these days.

There so many authors that I love. Antonia S. Byatt is my favourite of all times, but she seems rather daunting and rigid, as a person. Tolkien of course, but apparently he mumbled a lot and it was really difficult to understand a work he said, even for native English-speakers. It might be a tad awkward. O’Brian, perhaps? But he was such a fiercely private person, and so averse to being interviewed, that I fear I might get on his wrong side as soon as I say Good Morning. Some authors are best known through their books only, perhaps.

New Release - A Thorned Rose in the Sand - Lea Bronsen

Hi, and thank you for hosting me on your blog! I got the idea for this story after watching a video of French “globe cooker” Fred Chesneau visiting nomads in the Moroccan desert. They generously shared their food, home, and wisdom with a stranger, and I thought it would be cool to write about a female rally driver having the same experience. A Thorned Rose in the Sand is set in the beautiful, quiet dunes of western Sahara where the sun is so hot you can’t walk barefooted and you could go miles and miles without seeing a single soul. In this story, you’ll meet a badass 450cc rally motorcycle, an opiniated but gentle dromedary, and two highly strong-willed young persons from opposite sides of the planet who get off to a bad start then can’t keep their hands off each other 😊

When life in a big U.S. city becomes too much, Stevie Jones decides to live her wildest dream – compete against the tough guys in a motorcycle rally across Morocco. But the real excitement is found away from the race track, in the shifting sands of the desert. After his studies in London, Ragab has returned to the nomadic lifestyle of his Bedouin family and the majestic silence of the Sahara. He dreams of the perfect wife, until a beautiful but feisty biker stuck in a sand dune turns his quiet world upside down.

Excerpt

The girl screamed behind him. “Eeeeee!” Too hard to resist. Until now, Ragab had had a difficult time respecting her privacy, but surely, a scream called for attention. What kind of a gentleman would he be if he didn’t check on a woman in distress? He spun and found her kneeling on her jacket, nude and wet, arms outstretched in shock. He bit down a laugh. Yes, the deep well water was cold, but one got used to it, and in the extreme heat of the desert, it was a blessing. She turned, caught him staring, and even though he couldn’t see anything inappropriate, she hurried to cover her breasts and pubic area. “Look away!” she shouted, voice panicky. The laugh bubbled inside him, but he obediently turned back to the motorcycle—then stood in such a way he could see her reflection in one of the side mirrors. Oh, it was like watching a porn scene. Her long, red curls hung wild over her back and round, white butt cheeks. Every time she moved, a portion of her breasts appeared in the space between her ribs and arms. Such perfect feminine curves, all over. Imagine if he saw the front… Blood rushed to his groin. Stiffening, bothered, he tore from the sight, walked over to the well, and leaned against its waist-high wall, hoping the hardness of the bricks and coolness from the water below would temper his arousal before it became a full-blown erection. So silent… He strained to hear. Splashes. Muffled squeals. More splashes. He turned slowly and stole a glance from the corner of his eye. She washed her panties and black top in the bucket and leaned forward to spread them in the sun. Her position exposed the dark pink lips of her sex, from the tiny hole in her butt to the end of her slit, where her clitoris hid. Ooh! Shocked to his core, he turned back and groaned low, his cock hardening again. He closed his eyes, drew long, slow breaths to calm the painful throbbing and counted minutes, trying to think of something else. His dromedary, for example. It would be cool to show her how to ride it. What if he rode another one, and they both galloped on the dunes together, she laughing, ecstatic… Then they’d roll in the sand, and he would tease her thighs apart and slide his hungry hardness into her dark pink lips, to the wet bottom of her. Oh, yes. She called, “Ready?” He risked a glance in her direction. Wearing one of his sisters’ dresses and looking divine with her red curls floating behind her—and her face white and clean—she strolled to the motorcycle, carrying a bag and her clothes. She stuffed everything on top of the fuel tanks, got up, lifted the dress to her knees, and started the motor. Not once looking at him.

New Release - Lea Bronsen - The Audition

I am Very very happy to have my very special friend Lea in the Lair today (we are discovering weird coincidences all over our lives... something paranormal is going on here!!), with her new release, The Audition! I will let her do the talking!

Dear Katherine,

Thank you for inviting me to your blog! I’m delighted to have the chance to visit you again and talk about my latest release, the dark erotic crime novella The Audition.

You could call this book a writing challenge, as a good friend of mine came up with the idea for a seriously hot gay ménage scene to happen during a film audition and asked me to write a story with it, and I obliged. But since I thought the ménage bit in itself wasn’t enough to make a book – I needed complementary plot elements – I seized the opportunity to experiment a little with a side story. I picked my brain and chose a cold-blooded criminal’s perspective, one I’m well familiar with after writing the crime thriller Wild Hearted. But how to weave two entirely different worlds such as the movie industry and the drug dealing business together and make the resulting story plausible? Heh, read and find out:

Ruthless drug lord Ricardo “El Loco” Ferrer launders his black money by investing in movie productions. As a teen, he learned to enjoy blow jobs in jail. Now a man of power, his favorite pastime is checking out new acting talent…and convincing them to “please” the team of producers.

Young wannabe actor Jaden Moore comes to a shady side of town to audition for a movie part. He longs to shine, wants to walk the red carpet with cameras flashing and a crowd cheering. He assures the film director and the investors he’ll do anything to reach the top, but is he willing to comply with their dirty fantasies?

According to reviewers, this novella is “gritty and not for the faint hearted”, but “the heat level was off the charts”. I hope you’ll enjoy the read!

Excerpt:

Rico flashed Jaden his best playboy smile and opened his shirt button by button. It usually had the effect he wanted. He took great care of his body. The other job demanded he stay in tip-top shape, and the result came in handy during this part of the audition. Most young people found difficult to resist a tanned, well-built, and slightly sweaty chest.

Indeed, the more buttons he popped, the more Jaden stared, as if fascinated.

Rico grinned. Once the shirt hung loose, displaying his neat washboard of a stomach, he palmed his crotch. This part of the game, he savored. Closing his eyes, he rubbed the outline of his stiff length through his pants, up and down, slowly. “Do you have any idea what you’re doing to me?” He drew an exaggerated breath.

No answer.

Was the kid going to refuse playing, now that they’d gone so far? It would be a shame. Rico liked him. Jaden had proven worthy. A wide range of emotions boiled in him, and it didn’t take much coaxing to have him spill them out with raging honesty. That, Rico respected. “El Loco” may be a heartless son of a bitch, but he recognized uprigthness and integrity. He would never hurt someone fighting tooth and nail for noble values.

More, Jaden triggered something in Rico that he wasn’t unwilling to explore, given the right circumstances. He’d spent the past two decades a lonely man, and to be honest, it began to wear on him. What the terms for changing—improving—a part of his life were, he didn’t know yet. And it wasn’t without risk: he’d spent those years building a shell so no one could touch him. There were certain things guns couldn’t protect him from.

He reopened his eyes.

At the same time, Jaden flicked his gaze up, searching Rico’s. “I thought you said I got the movie part?”

“You got it.” Rico grinned. “This is a bonus.”

“Oh,” the kid said, in a choked tone that almost tore a laugh out of Rico. That, and his reddish complexion, told Rico he could continue playing.

In one swift move, he zipped down his pants to let the beast loose. “Look,” he said, voice tight, grabbing his swollen cock at the base and making the entire length swing from side to side. “You see this, Jaden? You’re the one doing it to me.” He moved forward, stroking his hard shaft, until mere inches separated them. Jaden’s warm breaths blew on his face. “Do you like what you see?”
